Since 1917, Lions clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their communities. From involving members in projects as local as cleaning up an area park or as far-reaching as bringing sight to the world’s blind, Lions clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community.
Today with more than 46,000 clubs in 194 countries and geographical areas, Lions have expanded their focus to help meet the ever-increasing needs of our global community.
Our programs are continually changing to meet new needs and greater demands, but our mission has never wavered: “We Serve.”
Lions in our area very involved with prevention and cure with the formation of the WFU University Eye Center, Duke University Eye Center and the new Diabetes Eye Research Center at UNC Chapel Hill. We work with local community medical help centers and involved with senior citizen care and aid.
Our involvement includes working with various charities including Habitat for Humanity, The American Red Cross, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and so much more.
Local clubs develop there own character and address the special needs in their communities including schools and youth.
Internationally millions of dollars has been given to the recent Tsunami victims and countries and hundreds of thousands to aid Katrina devastated areas in LA, MS and AL. Money's raised goes directly to clubs to be dispersed in the affected areas with supplies and needed essentials. This aspect of our civic organization makes Lionism so wonderful.
